Sam Peckinpah’s
“BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA”
…Is A Damned Fine Film.
I Purchased My Copy Back In 2005.
I’d Seen It Many Many Times Before Then…
…But That’s When The Edition I’m Watching, AS I TYPE THIS, Was Released.
Aside From 1969s…
“THE WILD BUNCH”
…And, To A Lesser Extent, 1972s…
“THE GETAWAY”
…This Film Is My Favorite From…
…Writer/Director Sam Peckinpah.
To ME, However, It’s The Performance Of The Film’s Star…
WARREN OATES
…That TRULY Sells It.
OATES Is An Old-School Actor Through AND Through.
He’s Always Had The Knack For Playing TOUGH And GRITTY Characters…
…In Equally TOUGH And GRITTY Films.
To ME…
“BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA”
…Is OATES’ MASTERPIECE.
Period.
I Don’t Know How Many Times I’ve Seen This Film…
…But I DO Know I Couldn’t Imagine ANYONE ELSE Playing His Part.
It’s One Of Those Situations Where The Part Truly Feels Like It Was Written Specifically FOR The Man.
The Film Itself Is Classic Peckinpah.
TOUGH.
GRITTY.
VIOLENT.
BLOODY.
BRUTAL.
It’s Very Well Written.
It’s Beautifully Composed And Shot.
And It’s So Wonderfully Acted.
It’s A Film Most Folks I Know Have Never Bothered To Kick-Back And Watch.
And I Feel Bad For Those People.
They Simply Don’t Know What They’re Missing.
If You’re Looking For Something Different To Watch Tonight…
…Or Tomorrow…
…Or EVER…
…You’d Be Wise To Do Yourself A Favor And Give…
“BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA”
…A Chance.
It May Not Be A Film For Everyone…
…But It’s A Damned Fine Film…
…Regardless Of Whatever Else.
Fo SHO Fo SHO, My Peeps!
