(Not So) Random (Blu-ray) Movie Mention: “Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN” (1994)

So, Yeah, Kiddies…

…The Title Of This Piece Really Says It All.

Today, I’m Going To Talk About A Flick…

…That’s A Personal Favorite.

By A Show Of Hands…

…How Many Of Y’all Have Seen..

MARY SHELLEY‘s

FRANKENSTEIN

(1994)

…Featuring…

KENNETH BRANAGH

(As "VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN" AND As The Director/Producer Of The Flick)

&

ROBERT De NIRO

(As "THE FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER" aka "THE CREATURE")

??? ??? ???

Okay…

…Well…

…Not Many Of Y’all…

…But More Of Y’all Than I Expected.

So I’ll Take That As A Good Thing.

;)

KENNETH BRANAGH

…Does A Truly Wonderful Directing Job On This One.

The Story Is Much Truer To The Original “FRANKENSTEIN” Works…

…And This Version Is NOT For The Squeamish.

BRANAGH Totally Goes For Our Jugular In His Adaptation Of The Classic Story.

Blood.

Guts.

Sweat.

Tears.

More Blood And Guts.

Etc.

Etc.

KENNETH BRANAGH

…Likes To Keep This One Rolling…

…Hardly Giving The Audience A Chance To Breathe Before Something Else Crazy Happens That Leaves Us All Aghast!

But The Crown Jewel Of This Film…

…IS…

ROBERT De NIRO

…As…

THE CREATURE

.Period.

He’s Hideous.

He’s Mean.

He’s Tough.

And He’s Lonely.

Trust Me, My Peeps…

…It’s A Lethal Combination.

Eventually…

THE CREATURE

…Realizes He Will NEVER Be Accepted Into The Community, Or By The Human Race As A Whole.

That He Will Forever Be Looked Upon As The Horrid Creation He Is.

And Then…

…Of Course…

…He Sets Out On A Quest Of REVENGE Against…

DR. FRANKENSTEIN

…Along With His Family…

…Friends…

…Whatever…

…And By Golly Jiminy Gee…

THE CREATURE

…Takes Them Out.

All Of Them.

He Doesn’t Discriminate.

Man.

Woman.

Doesn’t Matter.

For…

THE CREATURE

…In His Mind…

…He Is Extracting Proper JUSTICE…

…Against The Mad Doctor.

"WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN?!"

…You Quickly Ask.

Well…

…I Ain’t Gonna Tell Ya.

There Shall Be NO Spilling Of The Proverbial Beans By Me.

You Just Have To Watch.

;)

I’m Now The Proud Owner Of This Flick In An AMAZING Blu-ray Format.

The Picture Quality Is WONDERFUL.

The Sounds Are So Very REAL.

The Transfer Into The Blu-ray Format Is Simply BREATHTAKING.

I’ve Loved This Flick For A Very VERY Long Time…

…And I’m Very Proud To Have It In My Collection.

KENNETH BRANAGH

&

ROBERT De NIRO

…Totally Went For It With This One.

It’s Dark.

It’s Bloody.

It’s Dirty.

It’s Damned Near Insane.

BUT BUT BUT…

…It’s A Total Keeper Keeper, Fo SHO, My Peeps!

:D

I’m Not Saying All Of You Will Like This.

What I’m Saying Is…

…I REALLY LIKE IT…

…And Perhaps After Reading This, Some Of Y’all Will Wanna See It…

…Or See It Again.

I Consider This One A True-Blue FORGOTTEN CLASSIC.

And I’m Very Proud To Be Blogging About It With Y’all, Today.

MARY SHELLEY‘s

FRANKENSTEIN

…Is Dark And Brooding And Disgusting…

…And All At The Same Time.

Trust Me, Kiddies…

…It’s VERY WORTHY Of Your Viewership.

So Why Not Give It A Go?!

AND…

…If You Have Access To This One In The Blu-ray Format…

…By All Means….

…SNATCH THAT PUPPY UP!!!

It’s VERY Worth It.

Do You Trust Me?

I’m Pretty Sure Some Of Y’all Trust Me.

You Cats Will Hopefully All Get To Check This One Out.

It’s A “B-MOVIE”…

…Starring An EXCEPTIONAL CAST…

…Including…

TOM HULCE

&

HELENA BONHAM CARTER

&

&

IAN HOLM

…And Of Course…

JOHN CLEESE

…And It’s Directed By The Man Who Brought You…

(1996)

&

THOR

(2011)

:D

It’s A Damn Fine Flick, My Peeps.

Check It Out When You Can.

For Now…

…I Shall Digress.

Please Have A Decent Day, Kiddies.

The Work-Week Is Nearing Its Conclusion.

    • DITTO Fo SHO, Ms. Jaz!
This Flick Was Much Closer To The Original Story Than The Bulk Of The Other Films Made Based On Said Original Story.

      • I know huh! I think I have read the book like 10 times and saw the movie about 10 times. You know the version of dracula with Gary Oldman actually follows the book very very closely as well, another of my all time favs books/movies. Another one is Silence of the lambs Book/movies!

  1. I recall that I was visiting my girlfriend in Copenhagen, Denmark (she was on an exchange) during the week or two that MSF was out in theaters.

I also like Shelley’s novel (although more for its paradigm-shifting originality than for the writing–I’m more a 20th & 21st Century fan–but it’s impossible to overstate just how ‘out-of-the-blue’ was this 19-year-old’s novel).

I tend to view the filmic versions as completely different animals entirely. The Monster (often erroneously called Frankenstein, not least by me!) is often a nearly-mute creature with a three-year-old’s intellect (I haven’t seen MSF). This can be done to good effect (witness the creature tossing the little girl in the lake out of a childlike ignorance), but I haven’t seen a Frankenstein film that I enjoyed in some time.

Of course, I don’t watch many movies these days.

    • You Should See This One, Dude.
Robert De Niro’s Creature Talks. He Has Feelings. And He’s VERY Unhappy To Be Alive Again. And It’s Bloody Good, With A Capital “B” hehehe Like I Said, It’s The Closest They’ve Come To Actually Making It As It Was Originally Written.
And Kenneth Branagh Directs It, And You Know How Meticulous He Is.
      It’s Worth Checking Out, Broseph!

  2. Reblogged this on "You Jivin' Me, Turkey?" and commented:

Since I Can’t Seem To Get Myself Off To Sleep, I’m Drowsily Watching This Flick, Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN.
Oooo… I Wonder If It’ll Give Me Nightmares. I Suppose Anything’s Possible. Gotta Be Asleep, Though, To Have A Dream, Good Or Bad. ;)
