Chris Carpenter threw his fourth bullpen session on Wednesday and is expected to add the challenge of facing hitters the next time he gets on the mound.

Assuming Carpenter doesn’t feel any day-after pain from his latest work, the right-hander will throw batting practice during the team’s weekend series in Kansas City

Carpenter has been on the disabled list all season with a nerve issue in his neck and shoulder that began bothering him during the second week of spring training.

“I feel good. I really do,” the veteran righty told Langosch on Wednesday. “My shoulder feels good. My body feels good. The effort level has been there, too. … I feel good, and I’m looking forward to the next step.”

Carpenter will need to make three or four minor league rehab starts before rejoining the front end of the Cardinals’ starting rotation. If he’s…

Cardinals will have to make a tough decision when Carpenter returns, since their No.5 starter Lance Lynn has a 10-3 record and along with Kyle Lohse are the only two Cardinals starters with a winning record. Wainwright, Garcia and Westbrook could be in danger of losing their rotation spots, when Carpenter rejoins the team.


    • I’d Say Garcia Is The Odd Man Out, But He’s Going To Be On The Shelf For A Long While With The Injuries He Has. Lynn And Lohse Are Safe, As Is Wainwright, And I’d Even Say Westbrook. Jaime Has Had A Rough Season Thus Far. ALSO, Wainwright Is In His First Year Back From Tommy John, So I’m Sure He’s On An Innings Limit. So There’s How Jaime Gets Back Into The Rotation.
      I’m Happier With Them Having Too Many Arms VS Not Having Enough, Fo SHO…
